The Entire field of engineering and technology is facing an ever-growing phase of information explosion. In order to grasp and exploit these phenomena, it is essential to collate, manipulate, analyze and interpret the bulk of information, which is the essence of the subject of Computer Sc. & Engineering. It may has become important that Shillong Polytechnic should introduce another branch of engineering to face the present challenge of information explosion. And in the year 2000, Under the World Bank assisted project Tech. Ed. III Computer Sc. & Engg Department was introduced with an intake capacity of 30.

The Eight-semester diploma course in Computer Sc. & Engg. offers a 40 percent of theoretical knowledge along with 60 percent practical applications skill in the following areas:

  • Application development in day-to-day business.

  • Maintenance Skill of PC range of products and Network.

  • Operation Design & Development of databases management system.

  • Interpretation of information towards making decision.

  • State-of-art application development by using various software tools and techniques.

  • Use of various communication technology for proper dissemination of information.

  • Integration of various computing and communication systems for system development.

  • Design & development GUI for web-based application

Post Diploma in Information Technology  
       

Information Technology (IT) is spreading rapidly in our country. It is expected that India will soon become an IT superpower. A decision has also been taken by many Universities to introduce IT as a compulsory subject for all undergraduate students. It is thus essential for all students to be conversant with IT and its applications. The main objective of the course is to introduce IT in a simple language to all undergraduate students, regardless of their specialization.

 
 

A post diploma course in Information Technology is to be introduced under the World Bank Assisted Project Tech Ed III from the academic session 2003-2004 with an intake capacity of 20, under the Department of Computer Sc. & Engg. The main objective- of this course of studies is to produce technician at supervisory level to meet the demand of Technician manpower in various fields of development.
