The Department was established in October 1965, with an intake of 60 students for the three-year diploma course. At the present instance, the curriculum is more practical-oriented and skill-based semester pattern.  

The Civil Engineering Department with its record of quality diploma holders holds a important position in this part of the world: it is the most comprehensive diploma course in civil engineering program requiring minimum total of 130 credits for award of Diploma. With 23 credits of Foundation course, 18 credits of Hard Core Course, 6 credits Soft Core Course, 31 credits for Basic Technology course, 46 credits for Applied Technology course and 6 credits for Electives. Diploma holders in Civil Engineering from this Institute has a good blend of theory and practical knowledge and are recognized for the purpose of recruitment to all subordinates posts and services under the State Government, State Government Undertaking, Central Government, Central Government under taking and various Public Sectors and Private Sectors, Companies of the country.

Diploma holders in Civil Engineering from this Institute are also eligible for undergoing Bachelor of Engineering/Technology courses offered in different Institutes of the country.

• Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) packages have been purchased for almost all the subjects of the revised curriculum.

• CAI packages have been installed and are Online in the Computer Laboratory.

• This has made teaching and learning a simplified and enjoyable process for both the teachers as well as the students.

• Technical seminars help in detailed learning of a topic.

• This helps improve the speaking ability and instills confidence in the students.

• Students are given projects on varied areas and some also make models for practical practice.

• Final year students get exposure from a Survey Camp, where they do practical field work which helps to enhance team spirit and free interaction.

The Department is in position of taking consultancy job, testing construction materials.
